BEM Expands Fleet with New Orange Line Contract

Recently, Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) signed a contract for the Orange Line metro project, marking a significant expansion in their urban transit capabilities. The new agreement includes the procurement of additional train sets to enhance service across multiple lines.

Under this contract, the Orange Line will receive 32 new train sets, each comprising three carriages, resulting in a total of 96 carriages. Additionally, the Blue Line will see an increase of 21 train sets, bringing its total from 54 to 75 train sets, which equals 225 carriages.

In total, the new acquisitions will boost the combined fleet of the Blue, Purple, and Orange lines to 128 train sets, or 384 carriages. This expansion positions BEM’s fleet size significantly above the BTS Green Line, which operates 98 train sets with four carriages each, totaling 392 carriages.

It is expected that the increased number of train sets on the Blue Line will improve the frequency of service, addressing the current issue of passenger congestion. The enhancements are part of BEM’s ongoing efforts to provide a more efficient and reliable transit system for Bangkok’s commuters.

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from BEM and representatives from the involved parties, highlighting the collaborative efforts to advance Bangkok’s public transportation infrastructure. It was reported that this initiative underscores the commitment to meeting the growing demands of the city’s transit needs.
