Cambodia and Thailand Strengthen Ties for Border Peace Talks

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet recently convened with Thai Defence Minister Sutin Klungsang in a significant discussion encompassing border trade, demining efforts, investment, and tourism, amplifying the focus on securing peace along their shared border.

Central to these deliberations was the strategic emphasis on advancing the demining initiative along the border. This crucial initiative is poised to make substantial headway during the upcoming General Border Committee meeting in Cambodia scheduled for March. The impetus behind this effort lies in the imperative task of clearing mines from the border region, echoing the unwavering commitment of both nations towards fostering regional peace and stability.

Amidst this diplomatic engagement, marking Sutin Klungsang’s maiden international involvement as Defence Minister, Cambodian Defence Minister Gen Tea Seiha extended gratitude for Thailand’s support extended to Cambodian migrant workers.

This gathering has been underscored by officials as emblematic of a transformative phase in Thailand-Cambodia relations. The core focus revolves around collaborative actions in demining, joint military endeavors, and the welfare of migrant workers—pillars crucial for fortifying the stability and fostering the development of the region.
