Disaster Response Drill Held in Prachuap Khiri Khan

At Wing 5 Club in Ao Manao, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, a comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation exercise was conducted under the leadership of Mr. Somkid Chanthamruek, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. This exercise, aimed at preparing for major road accidents, involved coordinated efforts from various agencies, including fire departments, rescue teams, and medical services.

The simulation presented a scenario where a private oil tanker truck, transporting 48,000 liters of diesel from Bang Pa-in District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, to Songkhla Province, lost control on Phetkasem Road at kilometer 312+020, near the HomePro Prachuap Khiri Khan branch. The tanker collided with a Bangkok-Hat Yai bus, and subsequent crashes involved an electric sedan and a gas-powered sedan. The accident caused significant casualties, with oil leaking onto the road and smoke billowing from the electric vehicle.

In response to the simulated disaster, emergency services, including ambulances, fire trucks, and water trucks, were deployed to manage the situation and assist the injured. This real-world training aimed to enhance the capabilities of personnel from various agencies, refine the Prachuap Khiri Khan road safety action plan, and reinforce emergency management strategies. The focus was on optimizing provincial, district, and local incident command centers to effectively address such emergencies.

Mr. Somkid Chanthamruek reported that the exercise was successful, with officers demonstrating readiness to handle similar situations. Following the training, a debriefing session was held where participants reviewed the exercise outcomes, identified issues and challenges, and discussed recommendations for improving future training scenarios. This exercise underscores the commitment to ensuring preparedness for any potential incidents on Phetkasem Road, a crucial route for travel across the 14 southern provinces of Thailand.
