DNP Introduces New Alcohol Regulations for National Parks

Thailand’s Department of National Parks (DNP) has revealed plans to allow alcohol consumption in designated areas of national parks, providing that visitors obtain a permit from park managers. DNP chief Attapol Charoenchansa shared the news after consultations with the public, signaling a significant change from the longstanding ban on alcohol, which was originally intended to preserve the peaceful atmosphere of camping sites.

The proposed regulations include the creation of clubhouses where groups can gather and enjoy drinks without disturbing other park visitors. These changes, expected to be implemented within two months following publication in the Royal Gazette, will apply to national parks across the country.

“The regulation is designed to control where and how alcohol can be enjoyed, ensuring all visitors can experience the parks without disruption,” Attapol said. By regulating alcohol consumption through permits for designated areas, the DNP aims to strike a balance between offering recreational enjoyment and maintaining respect for the environment and fellow guests.

As the new policy moves closer to implementation, park visitors can look forward to a more relaxed, yet controlled, outdoor experience in Thailand’s scenic natural spaces.
