EGAT Launches Mae Hong Son Electric Vehicle Parade, Advancing Green Tourism and Carbon Neutrality

On June 29, 2023, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Mae Hong Son Province joined forces to unveil the Mae Hong Son Electric Vehicle (EV) parade. The ceremony took place at the clock tower area in front of Mae Hong Son City Hall, Mueang District, Mae Hong Son Province.

Governor Chettha Mosikarat emphasized that Mae Hong Son Province is blessed with abundant natural resources and a rich cultural heritage, particularly reflecting the Tai Yai ethnic identity. It is a favored destination for both Thai and international tourists. To ensure sustainable development in Mae Hong Son, various agencies have joined forces to promote the city as a green tourism destination. The campaign advocates for the use of electric vehicles to encourage eco-friendly transportation and travel. The launch of the electric vehicle parade serves as an opportunity for the people of Mae Hong Son to experience and explore EV BUS services, electric motorcycles, and electric bicycles. It marks a significant step toward advancing Mae Hong Son as a sustainable city in all aspects.

Mr. Anusak Chantakram, Head of the Smart Grid Pilot Project Development Project in Mae Hong Son Province, EGAT, added that EGAT and related agencies are collaborating on a pilot project to develop an intelligent power network, or smart grid, in Mae Hong Son Province. This initiative aims to establish a reliable power generation and distribution system, prevent power outages and blackouts, promote tourism and green cities, install solar cell street lights, and display billboards showcasing energy management values and disaster alerts. Furthermore, it encourages the use of electric vehicles and establishes an electric charging station to cater to the residents and tourists of Mae Hong Son Province. These efforts align with the SMART CITY strategy, enhancing the quality of life for the people of Mae Hong Son, supporting tourism, and caring for the environment in line with Thailand’s sustainable policy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The electric vehicle parade showcased an EV BUS adorned with captivating designs representing the unique identity of Mae Hong Son. Additionally, electric motorcycles and electric bicycles were introduced for the convenience of local residents and tourists exploring the project area. EGAT’s Pha Bong Learning Center, which will soon open as a tourist attraction, will also serve as a hub for studying clean energy in the future.
