This proposed road aims to forge a crucial connection between the alluring haven of Koh Samui and the mainland expanse of Surat Thani province. This strategic initiative, with its sights set on amplifying accessibility and fortifying links to the world-renowned island, celebrated for its unparalleled natural beauty and flourishing tourism sector, is poised to mark a new chapter in transportation infrastructure.
Underpinning this monumental undertaking, EXAT has meticulously pinpointed seven prospective pathways for this groundbreaking highway. The pivotal inaugural public consultation is slated to convene on the 14th of August. During this pivotal event, EXAT is poised to unveil the manifold merits and potential pitfalls that each of these envisioned routes may entail. The audience will predominantly comprise residents hailing from the districts of Don Sak, Khanom, and Koh Samui – the very locales earmarked as the envisaged construction sites of this transformative thoroughfare.
EXAT’s Governor, the insightful Surachet Laophulsuk, has emphatically conveyed that the forthcoming public discourse will delve into a myriad of pivotal facets. These encompass, among others, the meticulous scrutiny of investment feasibility, the far-reaching economic ramifications, and the indelible ecological footprint that this audacious project might leave behind.
Anticipated to be a game-changer for both tourism and the logistical conveyance of goods to Koh Samui, Thailand’s second-largest island after the illustrious Phuket, this pioneering highway is poised to dismantle the existing barriers. Presently, the gateway to the island is predominantly confined to aerial and maritime routes, a limitation that this visionary project seeks to surmount.
The meticulously mapped routes, spanning distances that oscillate between 22 to 29 kilometers, are poised to intricately weave together. This interconnection will seamlessly converge either with the arterial Highway 4142 coursing through Don Sak district or the pivotal Highway 4044 that traverses Khanom district.
