On August 20, 2024, Hua Hin Municipality began installing monkey traps in the Khao Takiab community as part of an ongoing effort to control the population of long-tailed macaques in the area. This initiative is part of a broader project in collaboration with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, aimed at managing the macaque population within the municipality’s jurisdiction for the fiscal year 2024.
The project targets the control of 150 macaques, with operations planned from April to September 2024. The current phase involves setting up traps to acclimate the macaques to enclosures, followed by baiting them with food to facilitate their capture. Once captured, the monkeys will undergo sterilization to control their population. This phase of the operation, which took place in the Huadon Community, Soi 3, was led by Surasak Anumethangkool, Director of the Wildlife Conservation Division, along with a team of veterinarians from the Department of National Parks.

It was reported that Nopporn Wutthikul, Mayor of Hua Hin, accompanied by several municipal officials, visited the site to oversee the installation process. The officials included members of the municipal council, the municipal clerk, and representatives from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, who were present to support and monitor the project as it progressed.
In addition to the trap installation, Mayor Nopporn and his team conducted a survey in Huadon Soi 9 to assess damage caused by macaques to local properties. The preliminary plan suggests that if the traps in Soi 3 are successful, the municipality will extend efforts to alleviate disturbances in the surrounding areas, providing much-needed relief to the affected residents.
