Hua Hin locals arrested after egg attack on tourist

Two individuals have been arrested in Hua Hin following an incident on April 17, in which eggs were thrown at a female tourist from Mauritius after she used a ride-hailing app near Hua Hin Railway Station. The attack, which occurred around 7:00 p.m., targeted a Grab vehicle the tourist had summoned, leading to public backlash after photos of the incident were shared online.

According to Hua Hin police, the suspects—identified only as a local motorcycle taxi driver and a 16-year-old girl—admitted to throwing the eggs. Officers reviewed security footage and linked the incident to three other similar cases reported between April 12 and 17. Police Colonel Kampanart Na Wichai confirmed the arrests and said both suspects confessed to the act, citing stress and frustration over declining earnings due to increased competition from app-based transport services.

The tourist, who was traveling with her husband, posted about the encounter on the “Life in Hua Hin” Facebook group, warning others and drawing widespread criticism of the behavior. Her clothes were soiled in the attack, though she and her husband later expressed forgiveness and gratitude toward local police and residents.

The suspects told police they did not intend to harm anyone or tarnish Hua Hin’s image but were overwhelmed by economic hardship. Authorities are proceeding with legal action based on the collected evidence.

In a message shared after meeting the suspects at Hua Hin Police Station, the tourist described the youth involved as coming from a disadvantaged background and asked officers to issue a warning rather than impose harsher penalties. A teacher by profession, she expressed understanding and emphasized the couple’s continued affection for Thailand, noting they visit two to three times annually.
