On March 19, 2024, Hua Hin Municipal Mayor, Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, was presented with the Sustainable City Environmental Award. The accolade recognized the city’s efforts in carbon reduction and disaster resilience. The ceremony, held at the Department of Climate Change and Environment, Bangkok, was chaired by Mr. Puvit Khaewwong, Deputy Director-General of the Department. Ms. Uma Srisuk, Director of the Community Engagement Division for Climate Change and Environment, delivered the report.
Joined by local officials and stakeholders, the event celebrated Hua Hin’s commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental management. Among the attendees were Mr. Nantanut Talalaksommon, Secretary to the Mayor, Mr. Theerapan Jatuphon, Director of the Public Health and Environment Division, and Mr. Pumirin Sukprasert, Head of the Environmental Quality Control and Management Division, alongside environmental networks.

The Sustainable City Environmental Award, now in its 2566th year, commends local governments prioritizing environmental management for enduring societal growth. It recognizes four dimensions: environmental integrity, disaster-preparedness, pollution control, and environmental-friendly practices. These are graded across three levels: Green City, Eco City, and Resilient City. In the previous year, 29 local governments were assessed under these categories, with Hua Hin Municipality being one of the recipients of the level 3 award for Resilient City, acknowledging its population of over 20,000 residents.
