In a concerted effort to bolster community-driven economic initiatives, Krabi Community Development recently orchestrated a milestone event – the 50th Anniversary Savings Festival. The festival, strategically aligned with the 50th founding anniversary of the Production Savings Group, aimed at fortifying grassroots economies through the augmentation of community funds. The event unfolded on March 6, 2024, at the Morakot Meeting Room, Krabi Royal Hotel, Pak Nam Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District.

During the commemorative event, outstanding certificates for the year 2024 were bestowed upon eight production savings groups and eight exemplary community development officers. The event drew participation from key figures in the community development sector, including government officials and representatives from the private sector, totaling 100 attendees.

The Production Savings Group, constituting a collective effort of villagers pooling resources to aid one another, was honored for its pivotal role. Established with the core values of honesty, sacrifice, responsibility, compassion, and trust, this group exemplifies the ethos of communal support. By fostering regular savings, members accumulate capital for those in need, facilitating investments and career advancements for the betterment of individual members and their families.
The overarching objective of the festival was to propagate and advocate the operational model of savings groups for production, as outlined by the Department of Community Development. The emphasis was on heightening public awareness regarding the importance of financial discipline and the role of savings groups in fostering community prosperity.
Presently, Krabi Province boasts a network of 168 production savings groups, catering to 15,588 households, with a cumulative fund of 145,656,068.20 baht. The Community Development Department has identified the operation of these groups as a pivotal tool in community learning and participation. Aligned with the department’s mission and the Ministry of Interior’s objectives, these initiatives aim to alleviate poverty, address household debt challenges, and curtail social inequality.
Deputy Governor Anuwat Modepring affirmed that the establishment of savings groups for production is instrumental in cultivating financial prudence among the populace. Encouraging individuals to save and utilize their funds for career development, he highlighted the significance of reducing reliance on high-cost borrowing sources. The initiative goes beyond financial aspects, aiming to develop moral values and instill experience in fund management within the community.
As part of the festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the Production Savings Group, various activities were organized by the Provincial Community Development Office in collaboration with the network committee. The event served as a testament to the collective strength and success of establishing savings groups for production, aligning with the mission to alleviate suffering, promote happiness, and foster community-driven solutions to poverty-related challenges.
