Authorities in Krabi Province have conducted random drug tests on public transport and boat service operators in a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of both tourists and local residents. The operation took place recently at the Krabi passenger transport station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Sarawut Ko Klang, Senior Inspector of the Tourist Police Division 3, Division 2, and supported by multiple provincial agencies.
The initiative follows an order issued by the Commander of the Tourist Police Bureau during a meeting held on September 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. According to Pol. Lt. Col. Sarawut, the Tourist Police Bureau had directed local units to perform random urine tests on public transport drivers, including both bus and boat operators, as part of a broader safety campaign aimed at enhancing the image of Krabi’s tourism sector.
In collaboration with various agencies such as the Krabi Provincial Transport Office, Krabi Provincial Harbor Office, Krabi Provincial Police Investigation Division, and the Marine Police Division, the authorities tested 40 public vehicle drivers and 20 boat operators for drugs. The joint operation involved personnel from the Tourist Police, Krabi City Police, and the Port Security Control Center.
It was reported that all tests returned negative results for drug use, ensuring that no illicit substances were detected among the drivers. The Tourist Police emphasized that this ongoing preventive measure is critical to safeguarding the well-being of tourists and preserving the region’s reputation as a safe and reliable travel destination. Further efforts to maintain safety standards are expected to continue.
The operation saw participation from officers across several provincial agencies, reflecting a concerted commitment to ensuring public safety and enhancing the trust of tourists visiting Krabi.
