MP Questions Government Transparency on Thaksin’s Health

Move Forward Party (MFP) MP Rangsiman Rome has raised concerns regarding the transparency of Thailand’s government concerning the health status of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

During a recent three-day visit to his hometown of Chiang Mai, questions surfaced regarding Thaksin’s abrupt discharge from the hospital and his subsequent busy schedule, prompting Rangsiman to demand clarification.

Rangsiman challenged the government’s narrative, particularly highlighting Thaksin’s swift release from the Police General Hospital to his mansion on parole on February 18, followed by his active engagements in Chiang Mai. The MP expressed apprehension regarding potential disparities between official statements and Thaksin’s actions.

Acknowledging Thaksin’s significant influence in Thai politics, Rangsiman pointed to the differing reactions of Pheu Thai MPs during debates involving the Thai businessman and Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. This disparity raises pertinent questions about power dynamics within Thailand’s political sphere.

Speculation is rife regarding Thaksin’s motives for visiting Chiang Mai, especially with upcoming elections for mayors of Provincial Administrative Organisations. Rangsiman urged the public to closely examine the government’s transparency in handling the Thaksin situation, emphasizing the paramount importance of truth and accountability.

“While acknowledging past injustices against Thaksin, the government must maintain transparency and refrain from deceiving the people,” Rangsiman emphasized, as reported by Thai PBS World.
