Panther Spotted in Kaeng Krachan National Park Delights Wildlife Enthusiasts

In a thrilling update for wildlife enthusiasts, the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has recently shared captivating photographs on their Facebook page, showcasing a panther sighting near Khao Phanoen Thung within the breathtaking landscape of Kaeng Krachan National Park, nestled in Phetchaburi province. These images, captured by a tourist on February 25th, provide a rare opportunity to witness the elusive creature in its natural habitat.

Mongkol Chaipakdee, the esteemed chief of Kaeng Krachan National Park, remarked on the panther’s serene demeanor, noting its nonchalant reaction to human presence and vehicles alike. The graceful animal was observed leisurely exploring its surroundings before gracefully melting back into the lush foliage of the forest.

According to DNP reports, the area of Bang Krang-Phanoen Thung has been identified as home to approximately 10 panthers and leopards, following extensive surveys spanning the past decade. These majestic felines are renowned for their elusive nature, often shying away from human interaction and seeking refuge in the safety of their woodland habitat.

For fortunate visitors fortunate enough to encounter these magnificent creatures, the DNP offers prudent advice. They emphasize the importance of remaining within the confines of vehicles and capturing the awe-inspiring moment through photography or videography. Disturbances such as loud noises or vehicle horns are strongly discouraged, prioritizing the safety and tranquility of both the wildlife and onlookers.

Officials from the DNP, including Mongkol Chaipakdee, express their enthusiasm for these rare sightings, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts in preserving Thailand’s diverse wildlife population.
