On the afternoon of August 14, 2024, at around 3:30 p.m., Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, directed Lt. Col. Apinan Boonyarat and a special operations unit to inspect two stores in Pattaya selling construction materials, hardware, and various chemicals. The operation was prompted by concerns about the sale of dangerous chemicals following a tragic incident in Chonburi Province that resulted in the deaths of three family members due to the improper use of a pipe cleaner mixed with caustic soda, which created a toxic gas.

The inspection focused on stores located near South Pattaya’s popular Walking Street, a central area for tourists. Officers held discussions with store owners, emphasizing the importance of proper usage and clear labeling of potentially hazardous chemicals. In particular, they highlighted a 500 ml bottle of pipe cleaner, recognizable by its white bottle and red cap, which clearly displays instructions and warnings. This product, priced at 60-70 baht per bottle, was identified as a potential risk if misused.
It was reported that the police also conducted public relations activities, advising shop owners on the importance of providing clear guidance to customers regarding the safe use of such products. The goal was to prevent further incidents similar to the tragedy in Chonburi and ensure that both store owners and customers are well-informed about the dangers associated with these chemicals.
