PM Prayut Urges Tighter Regulations on Fireworks After Fatal Explosion in Narathiwat Warehouse

In response to the tragic explosion at a fireworks warehouse in Narathiwat, the caretaker Prime Minister, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has called on relevant agencies to strengthen regulations against fireworks producers, importers, and sellers. The incident has raised concerns about safety and proper storage of fireworks, prompting the Prime Minister to take immediate action.

Gen Prayut instructed state officials to conduct thorough inspections of warehouses and storage facilities where fireworks may be kept without proper authorization. The goal is to ensure that all such facilities adhere to strict safety protocols and have the necessary permits in place.

Expressing gratitude for the support provided to the affected individuals, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of moral support and care for the well-being of Thai people during this challenging time.

In conjunction with the Prime Minister’s orders, the Minister of Interior, Gen Anupong Paochinda, issued an urgent letter to 878 district chiefs through the Department of Provincial Administration. The letter contains guidelines and regulations related to permits for manufacturing, importing, and selling fireworks.

Provincial governors have been tasked with implementing preventative measures and conducting active inspections on all entities with permits for fireworks activities. Their mission is to ensure strict compliance with the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks, and Imitation Firearms Act to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Safety and proper handling of fireworks are of utmost importance to protect the well-being of the public and prevent any potential tragedies.
