Police Reluctance Heightens Tragic Accident’s Impact

In a heart-wrenching incident in Kamala, Phuket, tragedy struck as a British woman, Zoe Lucket, aged 65, lost her life. On May 5th, she was fatally struck by a speeding passenger van that brazenly ran a red light at a major intersection. The sheer force of the collision hurled her approximately 20 meters down the road, leading to her immediate demise.

Following the harrowing incident, Lucket’s remains were swiftly transported by ambulance to Patong Hospital, where her passing was officially confirmed. However, despite the gravity of the situation, the Kamala Police have remained conspicuously silent, refraining from issuing any statements regarding the accident.

According to reports, the CCTV cameras stationed at the accident site were inactive, leaving no visual record of the tragic event. Despite offers from nearby businesses to provide CCTV footage, authorities declined to accept their assistance.

Adding to the distress, a source close to Lucket revealed that the van driver was not subjected to an alcohol test in the aftermath of the accident. This omission raises serious questions about post-accident protocols and safety measures.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the surge in fatal incidents since the expansion of the road into a four-lane highway. Advocates emphasize the urgent need for enhanced traffic-control measures, such as speed humps and clearer signage, to curb reckless driving and avert further calamitous accidents. They underscore that the investment in these safety measures pales in comparison to the value of preserving human life.

Zoe Lucket, a cherished member of the Kamala community and a long-term resident, leaves behind a void that resonates deeply among locals and expatriates alike. Her untimely demise serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative to prioritize road safety and implement effective measures to safeguard lives.
