During his recent visit to Chanthaburi province on April 27th, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin underscored the economic potential of the Eastern region’s summer fruit industry, with a particular emphasis on durians as a key player in this sector. The premier highlighted strategies to enhance the industry’s growth, including the establishment of robust secondary markets, advancements in processing techniques to improve quality, and the optimization of transportation systems to bolster farmers’ incomes.
At Dragon Fresh Fruit Co., Ltd. and Kaofong Co., Ltd., where he observed durian processing operations, Prime Minister Srettha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing for farmers and expanding fruit sales globally. Plans entail forging strategic trade agreements with major economies like India to create new export avenues.
Srettha outlined forthcoming initiatives aimed at developing a cold-chain transport system to facilitate the export of temperature-sensitive fruits and a logistics strategy to expedite fruit transportation to China via Laos.
Furthermore, the premier underscored ongoing efforts to elevate the value of durian products through enhanced processing methods, with the goal of making them more appealing to international markets while concurrently benefiting local farmers through improved quality and competitive pricing.
