Prime Minister Srettha Attends ASEAN-Australia Summit

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin embarked on a diplomatic mission to Melbourne, Australia, on Monday, marking his participation in the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. This significant event commemorates 50 years since Australia became ASEAN’s inaugural Dialogue Partner. Scheduled from March 4 to 6, the summit stands as a pivotal platform for fostering regional cooperation and dialogue among participating nations.

Today’s agenda for the prime minister entails a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from Malaysia, Lao PDR, Australia, and New Zealand. These discussions, anticipated to cover a spectrum of vital topics, aim at fortifying relationships and fostering cooperation between the nations, as communicated by government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke.

Furthermore, Srettha is set to engage with prominent business leaders representing some of the globe’s foremost companies. Executives from diverse sectors such as Fortescue, renowned for metal mining and green energy initiatives; Linfox, a stalwart in transportation and logistics; Redflow, specializing in zinc-bromine flow batteries for clean energy storage; ANCA, dedicated to software development; NextDC, a frontrunner in data management; and Hesta, a notable superannuation fund, are among those expected to participate in these discussions.

Throughout the summit, Prime Minister Srettha endeavors to explore areas of potential collaboration beneficial to Thailand and its partners. Key focal points of these dialogues include logistics optimization, leveraging Free Trade Agreements, advancing infrastructure projects like seaports and the Land Bridge initiative, propelling the digital economy, enhancing people-to-people connectivity, streamlining visa procedures, and championing the green agenda.

Upon concluding his engagements in Melbourne on the evening of March 6, Srettha is slated to journey to Germany to attend ITB Berlin 2024, the premier global tourism trade fair.
