On June 14, 2024, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited Hua Hin Railway Station to inspect the newly renovated SRT Royal Blossom train and to review the progress of the urgent double-track railway project from Nakhon Pathom to Chumphon. The Prime Minister praised the station’s unique improvements, expressing confidence that tourists will be impressed.
The visit was part of the government’s IGNITE TOURISM THAILAND initiative, aiming to promote Hua Hin as a key tourist destination. Accompanied by Deputy Minister of Transport Surapong Piyachote and State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Deputy Governor Avirut Thongnate, the Prime Minister reviewed the SRT Royal Blossom’s readiness to support tourism. Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Somkid Chantemruek and local tourists welcomed the Prime Minister.
During his visit, the Prime Minister interacted with the public and tourists, including a group from Taiwan who requested photographs with him. He listened to plans for the development of the southern double-track railway and sampled local delicacies such as banana leaf curry from Nong Pla Duk, grilled seafood curry, and desserts from Hua Hin, as well as grilled chicken from Nakhon Pathom. The Prime Minister commended the aesthetic and unique improvements to the SRT Royal Blossom train, anticipating that it will leave a positive impression on visitors.
The SRT Royal Blossom, originally gifted by Japan, has been transformed into a tourist train with the first set of five carriages completed. The train, refurbished entirely by Thai craftsmen, features recreational facilities and extra-wide windows designed to maximize scenic views along the route. A café onboard enhances the travel experience, ensuring tourists feel fully immersed in their journey.
Hua Hin Railway Station, known as one of the most beautiful in Thailand, features the distinctive Phra Mongkut Pavilion, built during the reign of King Rama VI. The original station building, constructed in 1911 and remodeled in 1926 with Victorian architectural influences, is a blend of cream and dark red with intricate designs. Despite the new station built for the double-track project, the historic Hua Hin station continues to be well-preserved by the SRT. There are plans to convert the station and pavilion into a historical museum, further promoting Hua Hin’s cultural heritage.
It was reported that Deputy Minister of Transport Surapong Piyachote, SRT Deputy Governor Avirut Thongnate, Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Somkid Chantemruek, and various officials were present during the Prime Minister’s visit.
