Rajavithi Skywalk to finish April 2026

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced that construction of the Rajavithi Skywalk, a 1.341-kilometre elevated walkway connecting Victory Monument to the Thaksin Building Intersection, is on track for completion by April 2026. The project is part of the city’s broader goal to become a “walkable and accessible urban environment,” enhancing pedestrian connectivity in key economic and medical districts.

According to BMA spokesperson Ekwaranyu Amrapal, the skywalk aims to integrate pedestrian movement with access to healthcare and medical innovation zones, while minimizing disruption to existing urban infrastructure and preserving mature trees along the route.

Unlike many elevated walkways, the Rajavithi Skywalk’s support pillars will not be placed on public sidewalks, avoiding obstruction to existing foot traffic. Instead, they will be constructed within fenced areas along the pedestrian route.

Tree conservation has also been a central component of the planning process. The BMA has collaborated with the Urban Design and Development Center (UDDC), Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Forestry, and the BIG TREES conservation group to assess the health of 197 trees in the construction zone.

Of those, 49 trees will be preserved in their current locations. The remaining 148 will undergo various interventions: 12 will be temporarily relocated and cared for in a designated nursery, 105 will be pruned and maintained on-site, and 31 trees deemed unhealthy will be removed. Officials confirmed that all relocation and removal procedures will follow proper arboricultural practices.

The Rajavithi Skywalk is expected to support Bangkok’s efforts to improve urban walkability and environmental sustainability while respecting the existing natural landscape.
