RFD Leads Effort Against Illegal Constructions on Phuket Beach

Amidst growing concerns over illegal beachfront constructions, the Royal Forest Department (RFD) spearheads a collaborative initiative targeting encroachments on reserved forest land at Phuket’s Nui Beach. This operation responds to heightened scrutiny following a recent altercation involving a Swiss national who claimed ownership of Phuket beach property.

Following a thorough investigation, officials uncovered that the contested area had previously faced demolition orders due to encroachments in 2018 and 2019. Despite this, recent observations indicate a resurgence of unauthorized constructions, obstructing public access and even charging entry fees. Emphasizing the public nature of the beach, the RFD reiterates that private development violates the National Reserved Forest Act.

Over 50 structures have been identified on the site, prompting authorities to issue demolition warnings with a 30-45 day grace period for compliance. Failure to adhere will result in government intervention, with all expenses incurred being billed to the encroaching parties.
