The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced a revised plan for the commercial development of 2,325 rai (approximately 910 acres) surrounding Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station. The project, which aligns with the policy direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit, includes relocating major bus terminals to the area to improve transportation connectivity.
Under the revised plan, land plot A, covering 51 rai, will be developed to accommodate a new bus terminal, an SRT office building, and a four-star hotel. The bus terminal, occupying approximately 11 rai, will be integrated with the MRT Blue and Red Lines, providing seamless transit options for passengers. The SRT headquarters will be constructed on 13 rai and will feature a 35-story office tower with facilities such as a museum, library, conference rooms, and direct connections to the MRT and Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station. Additionally, a 25-story hotel with 300 rooms and commercial spaces is planned for the same plot.
Meanwhile, part of land plot E, covering 23 rai, has been allocated for the construction of a new Ministry of Transport building. The Cabinet recently approved a budget of 4.5 billion baht (approximately 126 million USD) for the project, with construction set to begin next year and completion expected by 2028.
SRT Asset Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SRT, is working in collaboration with Transport Co., Ltd. to finalize designs for these developments. The broader plan also includes a housing project under the “Homes for Thai People” initiative, aimed at attracting private investment to surrounding areas.
Officials have indicated that the new plan follows a push from Member of Parliament Suphanat Minchaiyanant, who called for reorganizing bus terminals in Bangkok in 2023 and 2024, leading to the decision to centralize operations at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station.
