Surat Thani Province, April 10, 2024 – Governor Jesada Chitrat spearheaded an initiative today to ensure consumer safety during Songkran. Led by legal expert Mr. Panyawat Rattanakhot, officials from various agencies conducted surprise inspections across Mueang Surat Thani District. These inspections aimed to verify compliance with consumer protection laws regarding the sale of water guns and toys.

The task force, comprising representatives from Provincial Commerce, Public Health, Industry, Weights and Measures Center, Office of Buddhism, Police, and Provincial Damrongdham Center, along with legal officers, inspected five locations. They scrutinized whether businesses adhered to the Consumer Protection Board’s regulations, particularly Order No. 4/2007, which prohibits the sale of cylinder-shaped water injection toys that use direct compression to expel water.

During Songkran, incidents of consumers using such toys often result in injuries. Some unscrupulous vendors exploit the festival to unlawfully sell these hazardous products, contravening consumer protection directives. Therefore, alongside enforcement actions, officials are undertaking an educational campaign to raise awareness among both businesses and consumers about the risks associated with these items.
