Surat Thani Enhances Disability Quality of Life Initiatives

On March 25, 2024, Mr. Jesada Jitrat, the Governor of Surat Thani Province, entrusted Mr. Sukon Noopakdee, the Deputy Governor, to lead a pivotal meeting. The gathering aimed to oversee the initiatives of the Surat Thani Provincial Disabled Persons’ Quality of Life Promotion and Development Subcommittee No. 3/2024 at the Surat Thani Provincial Disabled Service Center.

The session focused on evaluating the implementation of the Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities. It scrutinized the community engagements and organizational efforts for individuals with disabilities across Surat Thani Province, aligning them with the National Plan for Improving the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities No. 6 (2023 – 2027).

Additionally, the committee deliberated and greenlit three projects in line with the overarching goal of enhancing the well-being of people with disabilities. These projects include securing budgetary support for the General Disabled Service Center of the Southern Association of Alumni of the School for the Blind for the year 2024. Also, initiatives to provide training and financial planning for blind individuals post-retirement and a project fostering batik cloth sewing as a sustainable career path were approved.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the facilitation of loans from the Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities, benefiting 22 individuals. It also considered amendments to the loan guarantors for disabled individuals engaged in various occupations, with five proposed changes.
