Thai AirAsia X has announced the reinstatement of its direct flights from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Sydney, Australia, as part of an expansion to meet rising travel demand. Starting December 1, 2024, the low-cost carrier will offer six weekly flights on this route, with promotional fares beginning at 5,990 baht per trip. These discounted rates are available for booking from August 19 to 25, 2024, covering travel dates between December 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, via AirAsia MOVE.
The decision to resume the Sydney route was influenced by the peak travel period at the end of the year, according to Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia X. The service will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays (with two flights), Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, providing passengers with more travel options from Don Mueang Airport at competitive prices.
In addition to the Sydney route, Thai AirAsia X is expanding its fleet and increasing flight frequencies on several key routes. By the end of 2024, the airline plans to offer more flights to popular destinations in Japan, South Korea, and China. This includes 18 flights per week to Tokyo, 14 to Osaka, 7 to Sapporo, 4 to Nagoya, 14 to Seoul, and 7 to Shanghai. The Sydney route will see six weekly flights from December 1.
The Fly Thru service offered by Thai AirAsia X allows passengers from various Thai regions, including Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, to conveniently connect through Don Mueang to international destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya, Seoul, Shanghai, and Sydney. This service simplifies the travel process by enabling passengers to clear immigration and collect their luggage only at their final destination. Promotional fares for Fly Thru services from these regions to Sydney start at 10,027 baht per trip.
Thai AirAsia X currently operates a fleet of eight Airbus A330 aircraft, with plans to increase this number to 11 by the end of the year. The airline also intends to add 3-5 more aircraft annually to keep pace with growing demand. Presently, the airline serves seven international destinations from Bangkok, including Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya, Seoul, Shanghai, and Sydney.
