Thai F16s respond to border sighting no airspace breach

At 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Royal Thai Air Force’s Air Surveillance and Control Unit identified an aircraft resembling a K-8 light attack jet operating near the border opposite Mueang District, Kanchanaburi. The aircraft was flying close to Thai airspace but did not cross the national boundary.

In response, two F-16 fighter jets from Wing 4 in Nakhon Sawan were dispatched to intercept and confirm the aircraft’s position. The mission involved a combat air patrol over Mueang and Sai Yok districts to ensure Thai airspace integrity and readiness.

The Royal Thai Air Force later confirmed that there had been no breach of Thai airspace and that the unidentified aircraft did not display any hostile intent.

According to Air Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force, the deployment served both to identify the aircraft and reinforce defensive posture along the border.
