Thai Government Intensifies Crackdown on Foreign Criminal Activities

Amid concerns over the escalating incidence of criminal activities involving foreigners, the Thai government has intensified its efforts to address this issue, aiming to safeguard the nation’s tourism reputation.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has directed the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to develop strategies and implement stringent measures to monitor and apprehend foreign lawbreakers.

In recent developments, the RTP has convened meetings to formulate and execute targeted initiatives against foreign offenders, with a particular focus on the Phuket Provincial Police Region.

Since October 1st, 2023, law enforcement efforts have resulted in the arrest of 614 individuals implicated in various crimes, including illegal employment and offenses linked to the sex trade.

Recognizing the significance of combating crimes perpetrated by foreigners, the Royal Thai Police has escalated its actions, referring significant cases to the Immigration Bureau for potential visa revocation.

Moreover, extensive operations have been launched to curb such illicit activities, with the overarching goal of restoring the tourism sector’s image and instilling confidence in visitor safety.
