Thailand Explores Hosting Formula One Race

In a significant development for motorsport enthusiasts, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Stefano Domenicali, CEO of the Formula One Group, convened today, April 22, at the Thai Khu Fah Building within Government House to discuss the prospect of hosting a Formula One race in Thailand.

The discussions centered on Prime Minister Srettha’s firm commitment to bringing prestigious international racing events to Thailand. He emphasized the government’s unwavering support for the initiative, highlighting its preparedness to furnish all essential logistical and infrastructural requirements to ensure the successful execution of such an event.

Echoing Prime Minister Srettha’s dedication, Stefano Domenicali expressed the Formula One Group’s keen interest in the possibility of staging a race in Bangkok. He underscored the potential mutual advantages that such an event could yield, not only for the sport itself but also for various sectors within Thailand, including its economy, local communities, and youth involvement.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Srettha reiterated Thailand’s eagerness to endorse international sports events, aligning with the government’s overarching strategy to bolster the nation’s global standing and drive economic growth through sports and tourism. He emphasized Thailand’s readiness to fulfill all requisite conditions and collaborate closely with the Formula One Group to transform this vision into a tangible reality.

This pivotal meeting marks a progression from preliminary discussions initiated in March, during a virtual conference held as part of Prime Minister Srettha’s visit to France. Those initial exchanges laid the groundwork for substantive deliberations concerning the feasibility of organizing a thrilling street race right here in the heart of Thailand.
