Thailand welcomed 279 international film productions between January and June 2025, generating direct revenues of 2.866 billion baht from spending on production services, transport, hospitality, and other tourism-linked sectors. Officials project full-year earnings could exceed 10 billion baht, significantly above the Department of Tourism’s original 7.5 billion baht target.
The data, based on official permits issued during the six-month period, reflects growing interest in Thailand as a filming destination. Production companies from India, South Korea, Japan, and China topped the list of foreign participants. Popular shooting locations included Bangkok, Pathum Thani, and Chonburi, areas that offer varied scenery and strong infrastructure, supporting both logistical needs and aesthetic appeal.
International productions are also credited with boosting Thailand’s image abroad. Destinations featured in films often see an uptick in tourist visits, helping to reinforce the country’s global cultural presence.
Looking ahead, Thailand anticipates continued growth in the sector. High-profile projects such as Jurassic World and The White Lotus have recently wrapped filming, highlighting the country’s appeal to major studios. The government’s incentive scheme—offering up to 30 percent in cash rebates for foreign productions—has been a key driver in drawing repeat investment and high-budget shoots.
Government spokesperson Sasikarn Wathanachan confirmed the ongoing role of international film in driving employment and regional economic activity across filming hubs.
