Thailand, New Zealand Strengthen Economic Ties

Thailand and New Zealand are actively engaging in discussions aimed at bolstering trade and investment ties, with a focus on key sectors such as agriculture, food, energy, services, education, and marine and aviation industries.

The talks unfolded during a recent courtesy visit by New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, to Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, marking a significant step towards deepening economic cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister Luxon commended Thailand’s economic strategies and expressed gratitude for its efforts in nurturing business collaboration between the two countries. Notably, he highlighted the “AgriZero NZ” initiative, which aims to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, suggesting potential collaboration wherein Thailand could share its expertise in agricultural innovation and research.

In the realm of agriculture, representatives from New Zealand’s Fonterra engaged in discussions concerning the support for small-scale farmers and the advancement of agricultural technology in Thailand, aimed at boosting farmers’ incomes and ensuring equitable growth. Furthermore, talks delved into Thailand’s aspirations for carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

Moreover, discussions included plans for establishing direct air connectivity between Thailand and New Zealand, envisaging enhanced relations and facilitating international trade.

The dialogue extended to the education sector, with proposals to establish international schools and curricula focusing on vocational skills development at both the vocational and university levels, indicating a comprehensive approach to fostering bilateral cooperation.

The courtesy visit, attended by prominent officials from both nations, underscores the commitment of Thailand and New Zealand towards strengthening economic ties and exploring avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.
