In the picturesque coastal town of Bang Saphan in Thailand, a remarkable event is about to unfold, blending the thrill of fishing with the charm of local culture. The “Thai Fishing Bang Saphan No. 2” competition, slated for March 23-24, 2024, is set to captivate both locals and tourists alike. Spearheaded by Mr. Suthin Prasertsak, Bang Saphan District Chief, and Miss Patcharasri Sombatthaweepoon, Tourism and Sports representative of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, this event marks a significant milestone in the region’s tourism promotion efforts.

Under the ambitious project to drive the National Tourism Development Plan No. 3 (2023-2027), this competition aims to showcase Bang Saphan’s unique culinary offerings and vibrant marine resources. Organized by a coalition of local authorities, including the Bang Saphan District Fisheries Office and the Tourism Authority of Thailand Prachuap Office, in collaboration with private entities like the Prachuap Port Company Limited, the event is designed to bolster community engagement and economic growth.
At the heart of the event lies a celebration of local delicacies, with a focus on blue crab meat, a prized product of the community. Visitors can expect an array of activities, from fish filleting demonstrations to musical performances along the scenic Ao Thian. Additionally, the fishing competition promises not only excitement but also support for local fishing community organizations, such as the Bang Saphan Fishing Boat Group and the Fishery and Tourism Community Enterprise.

For those eager to participate, opportunities abound to reel in not just fish but also attractive prizes, including a grand prize of a Suzuki 2.5 horsepower engine and motor oil from Liquid. Mr. Nantachai Sukkuea, President of the Bang Saphan Fisheries Association, extends a warm invitation to all, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the event. Even non-winners are assured of rewards, ranging from a distinctive work shirt to an evening of Chinese cuisine and live music.
However, amidst the festivities, a plea for environmental stewardship rings clear. Mr. Nanthachai Sukkuea urges villagers to refrain from catching small blue swimming crabs, emphasizing the importance of conservation efforts spearheaded by the Blue Crab Bank Group.
As the competition draws near, anticipation mounts not only for the thrill of the catch but also for the celebration of community spirit and sustainable tourism in Bang Saphan. With over 300 athletes expected to participate, the stage is set for a truly unforgettable experience.
