In a tragic incident reported by journalists on March 18, 2024, Police Lieutenant Colonel Atthaphon Chumkhong, Inspector (Investigation) of Bang Saphan Police Station, received distressing news around 6:00 p.m. An unforeseen landslide occurred, causing the mouth of a clay pond to close, trapping one villager beneath the debris. The victim’s fate remains uncertain at this time. The incident unfolded within the vicinity of Village No. 7, Ban Wang Nam Khiao, Ron Thong Subdistrict, Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Promptly, Police Col. Chairin Kaewsuwan, Chief of Bang Saphan Police Station, was notified and prepared to inspect the scene, accompanied by Mr. Suthin Prasertsak, Bang Saphan District Chief, District Administrative Officer Sawang Ratchasat Thammasathan rescue personnel, and the local village headman, who swiftly rallied to offer assistance.

Two long-arm backhoes were mobilized to expedite the excavation process in a desperate attempt to locate the missing individual. However, as of approximately 9:30 p.m., the victim remained unaccounted for. Concerns escalated among the gathered crowd, prompting officials to caution against approaching the clay pond, fearing a potential recurrence of the tragic event. Preliminary reports identified the victim as Mr. Rung Uthai Rung Sawang, a 48-year-old gold panner who utilized traditional methods in his profession. Engaged in his routine activity of sifting soil for gold ore near the pond, Mr. Rung Uthai found himself engulfed as the ground gave way unexpectedly, leaving him unable to extricate himself in time. Efforts to recover Mr. Rung Uthai continue amidst a somber atmosphere as authorities and rescue teams work tirelessly to navigate this distressing situation.
